Places In OZ

One of the problems with exploring and sightseeing around Australia, is the sheer size of the country. Some of the areas in the Eastern states are more condensed and easy to reach by normal transport means, but when you start to think of Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, only then does the enormity of the place begin to sink in.

In my opinion the best way to see Western Australia for instance, is to take the trip on the Indian Pacific train from Sydney to Perth, then return by aeroplane. The trip by train takes 76 hours +/- depending if you go direct from Sydney to Perth or go via Melbourne and Adelaide. The train caters for backpackers etc who sit/sleep in fixed reclining seats, economy class which have their own cabin but share communal showers/toilets at the end of each carriage, and finally 1st class passengers who have their own cabin/ensuite and toilet and the use of a club car, bar and some entertainment.

The main reason for using the train, is that for people with tight time-frames, it is the best way to fully comprehend the size and nature of the land and scenery which constantly changes. Others with more time can use cars, tow caravans or use the coaches that travel interstate constantly. The trip by aircraft is about 4.5 hours to Melbourne and 6 hours to Sydney, we on many occasions towed our caravan in both directions, it was always a great adventure.

Which ever mode of transport you decide to use, you will not be disappointed, the scenery is stunning and so diverse. Please use the links below to visit some of the places we have been lucky enough to travel to over the years, I am sure it will whet your appetite. Don't wait until its too late, get out there and enjoy yourselves, meet all the interesting characters.
